JAMMU: The Motor Vehicle Department in a landmark amendment in J&K Motor Vehicles Rules, today decided to do away with grant of Letter of Authority for registration of commercial vehicle, which was earlier a pre requisite to purchase and register a commercial vehicle.
But now the Government of J&K UT has simplified the procedure and has made it an open policy without any restrictions of grant of Route Permits.
Earlier, the applicant had to apply for Letter of Authority after the approval of RTA/STA, which was mandatory for registration of vehicle and subsequent issuance of Route Permit under any commercial segment.
But as per latest amendment in J&K Motor Vehicles Rules, the applicant can directly approach any concerned dealer, along with requisite formalities for registration of any commercial vehicle in compliant with BS-VI Emission norms (Approved Models Only) under Contract Carriage Segment (for Built up Vehicles).
In case of registration of Vehicles with drive away Chasis, the registration will be done by concerned RTO/ARTO Office.
