JAMMU: A seminar on Adolescent Health was held at Heritage School on wednesday for students of class VII.

The seminar was organised with the aim to provide students with the requisite knowledge and guidance so that they can take better care of their health and move into a strong and bright future.

Adolescents need to be made more aware; because ignorance and negligence can lead to multitude of problems which can pose a serious threat to the physical and mental well being of the child.

The guest speakers were: Dr. Meeta Gupta, Professor and HOD Obstetrics & Gynaecology AIIMS, along with her team comprising of Dr. Renu Sharma Associate Professor, Dr. Natasha Gupta Assistant Professor, Dr. Harleen Assistant Professor and Nursing Officers Diksha, Naresh and Yogesh, who shared their valuable expertise with the students.

Dr. Meeta Gupta discussed, in detail issues concerning the adolescent boys and girls like exam stress, importance of healthy diet etc. She also touched upon the issue of the growing threat of drug consumption by school going students.

She opined that concentrated efforts by both the teachers and parents can keep the impressionable youth away from the menace of drug abuse. She also alerted the students about sexual abuse and how to identify inappropriate behaviour.

While addressing the girls she also instructed them about menstrual hygiene and its importance. Thereafter she informed the girls about Polycystic Syndrome (PCOS), because it not only leads to irregular menstrual cycles but can lead to other complications during adult years as well. Children participated with all enthusiasm and interacted freely to clarify the myths and taboos associated with puberty.

The Principal Heritage School extended his gratitude and appreciation to Dr. Meeta Gupta and her team for imparting such valuable information to the students.
