Lok Sabha Elections 2024: DEO Budgam inspects MCMC Cell

Instructs for comprehensive monitoring of media platforms to check any MCC violations

BUDGAM: The District Election Officer (DEO) Budgam, Akshay Labroo today inspected the Media Certification and Monitoring Committee (MCMC), cell at District Information Centre Budgam.

On the occasion, the DEO assessed the functioning of MCMC cell and monitoring of paid news, fake news and political advertisements in print and electronic media, social media platforms, web pages, radio and other audio- visual screens.

During inspection, the DEO instructed strict monitoring and real time flagging of anything relevant to the MCMC as per the Election Commission of India guidelines.

He said that the MCMC is responsible for keeping check on the poll-related activities and monitoring print as well as electronic media during the electoral process aiming to prevent paid and fake news/information from getting aired or published.

On the occasion, District Information Officer Budgam, Burhan Hussain, Member Secretary MCMC, briefed the DEO about the activities carried out by the MCMC designated staff and its functioning regarding pre- certification of political advertisements, paid news, fake news or any media violations during the election process.

The DEO called for comprehensive monitoring of the MCMC and prompt media violations flagging with the relevant quarters.

The DEO was accompanied by ADC Budgam, Mehraj-ud-Din Shah, Nodal Officer Law and Order, Dy. DEO, Shakeel Ahmad and others concerned.
