Indian Philosophers Day and Vyas Pujan celebrated at CUJ

JAMMU: School of Languages, Central University of Jammu in collaboration with Indian Council for Philosophical Research and Bhartiya Shikshan Mandal, Jammu, Kashmir & Ladakh Prant organized a National Seminar on Advaita Vedanta: Paradigms and Intersectionalities as part of Indian Philosophers Day celebration to mark the birth anniversary of Jagadguru Adi Shankaracharya.

Prof. R.C. Agnihotri, formerly Vice Chancellor, Central University of Himachal Pradesh was the Guest of Honour and Prof. Sanjeev Jain, Vice Chancellor, CU Jammu was the Chief Guest in the inaugural function.

Prof. Bhavatosh Inder Guru, Head, Department of English, Hari Singh Gour University, Sagar, Madhya Pradesh was the keynote speaker. In his address, Prof. Guru dwelt at length about the seminal issues of Advaita Vedanta and underscored the presence of Brahman in each being. Further, Prof. Guru elucidated Adi Shankara's philosophy which does not discriminate between knowledge and has the core essence of interconnectedness.

Speaking on the occasion, the Guest of Honour, Prof. Agnihotri underlined the continuity of knowledge traditions in India which need to be researched in Indian Universities. Further, Prof Agnihotri complemented the growth trajectory of Central University of Jammu in all dimensions of academics and research.

Prof. Sanjeev Jain, chief guest on the occasion, highlighted the role of teachers in the growing era of technological advancement which needs persistent learning, relearning and unlearning.

Further, Prof. Jain said India has a glorious tradition of Guru-Shishya Parampara which needs to be carried forward. Speaking on the occasion, the Registrar, Prof. Yashwant Singh highlighted that the university is conducting research in sync with the Indian Knowledge Traditions and Adi Sharakrcharaya's philosophy is always relevant.

In the welcome address, Prof. Vandana Sharma, Dean, School of Languages highlighted that the Seminar is beginning in the direction of developing and understanding Adi Shankaracharya's philosophy of Advaita Vedanta among young scholars and researchers.

Further, she expressed satisfaction that young scholars and students have presented excellent posters and have shown interest in the theme which requires deep understanding. Prof. Deepak Pathania, Dean Research Studies and Prof. Asif Mantri, Head, Department of Educational Studies evaluated the posters.

Dr. Vijendra presented the vote of thanks and Dr. Vandana Sharma, Dept. of Hindi conducted the proceedings. As part of Vyas Pujan, teachers from University of Jammu, Kendriya Vidyalaya Rahya, Higher Secondary School Rahya and Principal of Jammu Sanskriti School were honoured.

Vyas Pujan is one of the key celebrations of Bhartiya Shikashan Mandal celebrated to honour the glorious Indian guru shishya parampara.
