RAMBAN: The 87th CRPF Raising Day was celebrated with great enthusiasm at the 84 Battalion CRPF Headquarters, Boom Chanderkote, Ramban.

The event was marked by a series of activities honoring the sacrifices and services of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) towards the nation.

CRPF, initially raised as the Crown Representative Police on 27 July 1939, was rechristened as the Central Reserve Police Force in December 1949. It is the largest Central Armed Police Force in India, with nearly 250 battalions deployed across the country in various conflict theatres including J&K, the North East, Punjab, LWE states, and in operations like counter-terrorism, anti-naxal, VVIP security, election duties and more.

Since 2009, the 84 Bn CRPF has been deployed in Jammu and Kashmir and is presently stationed in Ramban district, securing the crucial NH-44 stretch of 47 km. The unit ensures the smooth passage of Shri Amarnath Ji Yatra convoys, SF convoys, and other vehicular movement in the region.

During the celebration, Commandant N. Ranbir Singh, officers and personnel of the 84 Bn paid rich tributes to the martyrs of CRPF who laid down their lives in the line of duty. The Commandant addressed the gathering, recalling the glorious history and distinguished legacy of the CRPF and urged the personnel to continue serving the nation with dedication and valor.

As part of the "Cleaner and Greener Planet" initiative, a plantation drive was also organized in which nearly 500 saplings were planted. The day concluded with a series of sports competitions, cultural performances, and a traditional Bada Khana, which witnessed enthusiastic participation from all officers and personnel.
