SAMBA: NSS Unit (KHIDMAT) of Government Degree College Vijaypur, in collaboration with Department of English, and under the banner of Gandhi Jayanti Celebrations 2023, Nasha Mukt Bharat and Bhrashtachar Mukt J&K, organised a book reading activity of Mahatma Gandhi's autobiography My Experiments with Truth to commemorate birth anniversary of Gandhi ji.

The activity was aimed at introducing students to the life, principles, philosophy, thoughts, contribution of Gandhi ji in the struggle for independence, and everything in the autobiography that teaches a holistic approach towards life.

The event commenced with the welcome address by Dr. Radhika Rasyal (Lecturer, Department of History) where she introduced the book to the readers saying the book's sole motive is to represent Gandhi's experiences and experiments with truth.

The stories shared by GandhiJi are mere illustrations, and the readers must conduct experiments themselves in their encounter with truth. NSS volunteers and other college students participated in the book reading activity with great enthusiasm, fervor and zeal whose main aim was to inculcate the habit of book reading among college students. Discussion was also held at the end of book reading to discuss main ideas of the book.

The activity was carried out under the able guidance of Dr. Vandana Gupta, Principal of the College.

In her address to the participating students she said that the major objective of organizing such an activity was to inculcate and revive the fast dying habit of book reading in the digital era. She also stressed upon various principles that GandhiJi adopted in his life like SatyaGrah, Non-Violence, Self-Reliant to lead a successful and disciplined life.

The event was coordinated by Dr. Shittal Sharma (Convener, NSS) and Dr. Naseem Chowdhary (NSS PO).

The formal vote of thanks was presented by Dr. Attied Khawar Balwan (lecturer, Department of English).
