J&K runners shine in Sahyadri Hills Ultra-distance running

JAMMU: In a remarkable display of endurance and determination, runners from Jammu etched their names in the annals of Ultra-distance running at the Sahyadri Hills Ultra in Lavasa, Maharashtra.

Samvit Sharma, Satbir Singh, Dr Deepak Tickoo and Shilpa Chaku members of 1J.U.T.T have emerged victorious in the Sahyadri Hills Ultra and proved their mettle by displaying exceptional grit and resolve in extreme conditions.

Samvit Sharma and Satbir Singh clinched the first and second positions respectively in the gruelling 100-mile (161km) category, amidst challenging terrain and adverse weather conditions. Samvit Sharma secured the top spot with an impressive timing of 21 hours, 56 minutes, and 18 seconds, conquering the course that included a daunting elevation gain of 4152 meters.

Following closely behind, Satbir Singh clocked in at 27 hours, 36 minutes, and secured the second position, demonstrating unparalleled grit and stamina in the demanding race.

For the first time, runners from Jammu & Kashmir secured podiums in the 161km ultra run. Adding to the accolades, Dr Deepak Tickoo achieved a remarkable feat by completing the 100-kilometer run in 16 hours, 45 minutes, and 15 seconds. Dr. Tikoo's endurance and perseverance were on full display as he tackled a course with an elevation gain of 1887 meters, becoming the first sexagenarian from J&K to officially complete the 100km distance.

In the female category, Shilpa Chaku secured first position in the 100km race, finishing with a commendable time of 17 hours, 26 minutes, and 18 seconds.
