GANDERBAL: The District Social Welfare Officer (DSWO) Ganderbal (Nodal Officer People with Disability and accessibility for Lok Sabha Elections 2024) today convened a meeting at the Meeting Hall of Hope Disability Centre which focused on preparations for the upcoming elections.

The primary agenda was to sensitize and mobilize staff members from various departments regarding their roles and responsibilities in ensuring inclusive voting, especially for people with disabilities, senior citizens, and women.

DSWO emphasized the critical role of One Stop Centre, Ahat e Waqar, and DDRC Ganderbal in raising awareness about voting rights among marginalized groups. This included educating them about their rights, the significance of casting votes, and dispelling any myths or barriers that may hinder their participation.

The theme ‘No Voter Shall Be Left Behind' encapsulated the essence of the campaign. The focus was not only on encouraging voting but also on ensuring equal opportunities for all eligible individuals to exercise their fundamental right to vote.

Staff members were briefed on effective strategies to reach out to diverse communities. This involved using accessible communication methods, organizing awareness drives in local languages, and leveraging community leaders and influencers to amplify the message.

DSWO provided detailed information about the special arrangements made at polling stations to facilitate voting for people with disabilities and senior citizens. This included wheelchair, ramps, accessible voting booths, trained personnel for assistance, and extended voting hours if needed.

He reiterated the fundamental importance of every eligible individual casting their vote. This not only strengthens democratic processes but also empowers communities to voice their concerns and contribute to nation-building.

Following the meeting, a comprehensive action plan was devised, outlining specific tasks for each department and individual to ensure effective implementation of the campaign.

Regular follow-ups and progress assessments were scheduled to track the impact and address any challenges that may arise.

By empowering staff members and emphasizing the theme of inclusivity, the campaign aims to create a more equitable and engaged democratic process, where every voice matters.
