ANANTNAG: In a major success, security forces foiled a terror plot when they arrested three terrorist associates and recovered arms and ammunition in Jammu and Kashmir's Anantnag district.

The police identified the trio as Umaiq Mushtaq Zargar a resident of Karewa Colony Bijbehara, Ishfaq Ahmad Dar of Dar Mohalla Arwani and Shahid Ahmad Gadhanji a resident of Dar Mohalla Arwani, delivering a significant blow to terror activities in the district, police said on Tuesday.

One pistol, two pistol magazines, 23 pistol rounds and two grenades were recovered from them.

The arrests were made during a naka checking by a joint team of police in coordination with the Army and CRPF at Wopzan.

Preliminary investigations indicate that the trio was planning subversive activities in and around Anantnag district under the instructions of Lashker-e-Toiba (LeT) Handlers.

A case has been registered at Police Station Bijbehara under FIR No. 172/2024 U/S 7/27 Arms Act, 13, 18, 23, 39 UAPA Act. Further investigations are ongoing, police said.

This joint operation underscores the relentless efforts of the security forces in combating terrorism and ensuring the safety of the Public. The apprehension of these Terrorist associates and the recovery of arms and ammunition is a major setback to the plans of anti-national elements in the region, police added.
