DC Jammu inaugurates third Edition of HSJMUN

JAMMU: The third edition of the HSJMUN commenced at Heritage School on October 7th with a glittering opening ceremony, which took place in a festive spirit of great excitement in the school Botanical Garden.

Avni Lavasa, Deputy Commissioner Jammu, graced the occasion as the Chief Guest. During her tenure as DC Leh she initiated some path breaking movements in the region and has taken many initiatives to promote women empowerment. Her benign presence infused new vigour and energy among all young enthusiastic delegates.

The event began with the welcome address delivered by Anika Gupta, Vice Head Girl, followed by the auspicious ceremony of lighting the lamp by the esteemed Chief Guest and Principal Heritage School Akash Pradhan.

A splendid cultural programme was put up by the students of the Heritage School who mesmerized everyone with their magnificent performance and set the ball rolling for the conference, which is being attended by 250 students from Jammu region.

The three day conference from 7th to 9th Oct 2022 will witness the simulation of 9 committees - UNSC, UNHRC, Rajya Sabha, AIIPM, ECOSOC, CCC, UNESC , UNCD and International Press.

Delegates will be debating and brainstorming for solutions of global and national issues like stagflation, cyber warfare, rise in illicit trade of narcotics especially in conflict areas, rising homophobia, implication of rising FDI in African countries etc. A short video highlighting the theme of the conference as well as the committees and respective agendas was also showcased.

In her address to the gathering Avni Lavasa expressed her delight at being present among young students. She appreciated the efforts of Heritage School in providing such an important platform to children for not only enhancing their public speaking skills but also moulding the leaders of future.

She reiterated the importance of such programmes in exposing the students to real life problems and acquainting them with formal institutes of politics. In her message to the young minds she said that above all, the most important thing was to evolve as good human beings.

Secretary General Aasim-Ul-Haq , student of Heritage School, in his speech talked about the importance & relevance of MUN in shaping the leaders and change makers of tomorrow. He also introduced the august gathering to the Executive Board members, who'll be moderating the debates in the committee rooms during the days of conference.

The Executive members held ice breaking sessions in their respective committees. The gleaming Opening Ceremony concluded with the Secretary General HSJMUN declaring the conference open.
