Two-Day Seminar on ‘India's Pathways to Next Economic Powerhouse by 2047' concludes at JU

JAMMU: A two-day seminar on ‘India's Pathways to Next Economic Powerhouse by 2047' organized by Department of Economics sponsored by the Indian Council of Social Science Research, New Delhi concludes today at University of Jammu.

In the valedictory function, Prof. Raj Kumar Mahajan, the Former Professor, Punjabi University, Patiala, Regional Centre Bathinda, Punjab, was the Chief Guest. He advocated that India has tremendous potential to grow using robust policies to address the challenges of poverty, inequality, unemployment and sustainability which will pave the way to become the next economic powerhouse by 2047.

The Key Note Speakers of the inaugural function were Prof. (Dr.) Balwinder Singh Tiwana, the Former Professor, Punjabi University, Patiala, Prof. Kuldip Kaur, Chairperson, Ambedkar Chair, and Former Professor, Punjab School of Economics, GND University, Amritsar, Punjab, and Prof. I. C. Awasthi, Former Professor, Institute for Human Development, New Delhi.

Prof. Balwinder Singh Tiwana emphasized on building economic strength and to leverage the drivers of sustainable economic growth and to strengthen the India Rupee vis-à-vis Dollar. The continuous evaluation of short-terms achievements of Indian economic performance is essential to plan for long-term goals.

India has also to address the fluctuations in FDI and foreign exchange reserves to become the next economic powerhouse.

Prof. Kuldip Kaur advocated reaping the demographic dividend and improving the labour productivity and addressing the problem of climate change for sustainable agriculture. Prof. I. C. Awasthi argued that inclusive growth is necessary to address rampant problems of unemployment and inequalities over the long-term to build a strong economy.

The seminar convener Prof. Falendra Kumar Sudan presented a brief summary of two-day seminar, while Dr. Tsering Yangzom presented the welcome remarks and Prof. Sunita Sharma, presented the vote of thanks. Prof Jasbir Singh appreciated the Head of the Department for his all support to organise such type of events.

Dr. Virender Koundal, Dr. Manoj Bhatt, and Dr. Shallu Sehgal of the Department of Economics were also present.

Today, the six parallel sessions were conducted in which well researched papers on various topics were presented including the role of Foreign Direct Investment, Digital Educational Initiatives, Export and Import, Rural Governance and Entrepreneurship, Digitalizing Higher Education, Online University Teaching, Agrarian Change, Gender Dividend, Manufacturing Value Added, Corporate Governance, Sustainable Urban Transportation, Financial Development, Digital Empowerment, Digital Transformation of Agriculture, Human Development and Poverty Reduction, Renewable Energy, Nuclear Energy, Water Resilience, Land Sustainability, Food Security, Services Sector, Carbon-Neutral Cities, Fiscal Reforms, Inclusive Development, Entrepreneurship, Innovation, Investment, and R&D and many more topics in becoming the next economic powerhouse by 2047.
