JU organizes Prof. G. L. Kaul memorial lecture

JAMMU: A lecture in memory of one of the founding members of the department, late Prof. G. L. Kaul was organized at the Department of Computer Science & IT, University of Jammu. While speaking on the occasion, the Chief Guest of the function Prof. Rahul Gupta, Dean, Mathematical Sciences, University of Jammu appreciated the efforts of the department of Computer Science and IT in taking the initiative for organizing such a series of lectures.
Prof. Rahul Gupta also emphasized upon the achievements and contributions put in by late Prof. G. L. Kaul in building the department. Prof. Rattan Lal Hangloo, Honorary Chancellor, Nobel International University, Canada at its USA Campus, and former Vice Chancellor, University of Kalyani, West Bengal and University of Allahabad delivered the invited talk on theme - Science, Technology, and Freedom - a historical perspective.
Prof Hangloo deliberated in depth about the relevance of science and technology in shaping the societies and contribution of ancient Indian knowledge in various fields.
He said that science has given the freedom to individuals to express their views freely in sharing knowledge for the growth and development of the nation.
Prof Hangloo, a distinguished visiting professor at SRM, emphasized that the younger generation should work with dedication and commitment in the field of science and technology for the upliftment and betterment of the society.
Prof. Pawanesh Abrol, Head of the department presented the welcome address to the participants in his initial remarks.
Prof Abrol briefed the audience about the significant achievements/ contributions made by the Department since its inception in the field of research, academics, and infrastructure.
Prof. Vinod Sharma ofDepartment of Computer Science & IT threw light on the life history of Prof. G. L. Kaul while Prof. Lalit Sen Sharma introduced the invited speaker to the participants. Sh Jasbir Singh presented the final vote of thanks.
Veena Kaul, wife of late Prof. G. L. Kaul, Col Ravi Bhat (retd.), Avtar Krishen Raina, Komal Kaul, Shalini Koul,and other family members attended the lecture.
Dr. Shubhnandan Singh Jamwal, Jasbir Singh, Dr. N Suresh Rao, Dr. Tirath B.(History), Dr. Palak Mahajan, Shivalika Sambyal, Anil Tickoo, Sanjay Manhas, staff members, besides a large number of research scholars and studentsattended the lecture.
