One Week Long Plantation Drive culminated at UIET, Kathua Campus (JU)

KATHUA: University Institute of Engineering and Technology (UIET), Kathua Campus (JU) concluded its highly successful one-week plantation drive with a spectacular valedictory ceremony, showcasing the institution's commitment to environmental conservation and sustainable practices.

The event witnessed the participation of esteemed guests including the Chief Guest Prof. R. D. Sharma, Former Vice Chancellor, University of Jammu and Founding Rector Kathua Campus; Guest of Honour, Prof. Meena Sharma, Dean Planning, University of Jammu and Former Rector, Kathua Campus; Special Guest, Prof. Rakesh Vaid, Director, Poonch Campus (JU); Keynote Speaker, Sh. Rakesh Kumar Gupta, Chief Engineer, JKPDC Ltd, Jammu.

The valedictory event witnessed an array of noteworthy activities. It was marked with the establishment of the exquisite "Navgrah Vatika" inaugurated by Dr. Meenakshi Kilam, Rector, Kathua Campus (JU).

The programme also included a series of engaging activities aimed at fostering environmental awareness among students and the larger community. As part of the celebration, amidst the rusting leaves, all the guests united and nurtured the earth by planting saplings hoping for greener tomorrow.

The invited guests also visited various gardens prepared by the students within campus which emphasize the importance of green spaces and biodiversity.

Prof. R. D. Sharma, Former Vice Chancellor, University of Jammu and Founding Rector, Kathua Campus, University of Jammu congratulated the entire team of UIET for successfully organising the plantation drive.

He further accentuated the significance of environmental consciousness and encouraged students to continue their active participation in initiatives that promote a healthier planet.

He also added that UIET has always been committed to nurturing socially responsible engineers and technocrats.

Prof. Meena Sharma, Former Rector, Kathua Campus and Dean Planning, University of Jammu applauded the efforts of the entire UIET community in organizing and participating in the plantation drive.

She further emphasized the campus's dedication to fostering a culture of environmental awareness and encouraged everyone to continue their active involvement in such initiatives.

Prof. Rakesh Vaid, Director, Poonch Campus, University of Jammu shared his experiences and wisdom, emphasizing the role of young minds in shaping a better future for the mother earth.

He further urged the students to take up the responsibility of nurturing the environment and making sustainable choices in their everyday lives.

He said that the engaging activities throughout the week reflect their dedication to foster a culture of environmental stewardship among our students.

Rakesh Kumar Gupta, Chief Engineer, JKPDC Ltd, Jammu in his keynote address eulogized UIET's unwavering commitment to environmental sustainability and preservation. Further he focused on the role an individual plays in preserving and revitalizing our environment. He also highlighted that an education institution can play a major role in nurturing environmental consciousness.

Dr. Meenakshi Kilam, Rector, Kathua Campus (JU) expressed her delight over the overwhelming success of the one-week plantation drive and the heart-warming response from the campus community.

She said that efforts made by Kathua Campus community are not only contributing to agreener campus but also instilling a sense of responsibility and awareness among the future leaders of our society.

She further added that the success of plantation drive would not have been possible without the collaborative efforts of faculty members, students and administrative staff who worked tirelessly to make the event a resounding success.

Dr. Sourabh Shastri, I/c Coordinator, UIET welcomed and expressed his gratitude to the distinguished guests on the valedictory function. He said that the entire event was a testament to UIET's unwavering commitment to environmental stewardship and its role as a catalyst for positive change.

Dr. Nisha Choudhary coordinated the whole programme and Dr. Shivani Sharma delivered vote of thanks.

Principals of different Government Degree Colleges and Higher Secondary Schools of Kathua district, Retd. Principals, people of Civil Society, Officers and staff of Forest Department and Social Forestry, teaching faculty, non-teaching staff, and students of the Campus were also present.
