GCW Udhampur hosts 5-day Theatre workshop to celebrate Accession Day

UDHAMPUR: A five day theatre workshop commenced today in Government College for Women, Udhampur to extend the benefits of professional training/orientation to the students of colleges affiliated with University of Jammu.

The workshop was inaugurated by the Special Guest, Under Secretary to Government, Higher Education Department, Dr. Tanvi Gupta in presence of Principal of the host College Prof. Anjali Mahajan and Drama Instructor/Incharge Training Outreach Programme, Department of Students Welfare, University of Jammu, Sumeet Sharma.

The Workshop has been organized by the Department of Music and Students Welfare Committee, Government College for Women Udhampur in collaboration with the Department of Students Welfare University of Jammu under Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC), GCW Udhampur.

The workshop was conducted under able guidance of Dean Students Welfare, University of Jammu, Prof. Prakash Antahal and Chairperson Campus Cultural Committee, University of Jammu, Prof. Monika Chadda.

As many as 55 students from different colleges of district Udhampur affiliated with University of Jammu are participating in the workshop. The students who participated in the workshop from different colleges were GDC Udhampur, GDC Ramnagar, GDC Chenani, Bhim Singh College of Education along with GCW Udhampur.

Dr. Tanvi Gupta congratulated the host college for organizing such a wonderful workshop and cultural programme that will go a long way in developing internal skills, stage confidence, personality development in students.

She also congratulated Principal, GCW Udhampur for hosting the first ever workshop of this programme which is extending benefit to the students of around different colleges.

Incharge Training Outreach Programme, Sumeet Sharma informed that the Department of Students Welfare, University of Jammu keeps on organizing several training camps/workshops of music, dance, theatre, fine arts etc. for the benefit of students of university and affiliated colleges.

In her address, Principal GCW Udhampur Prof. Anjali Mahajan said that the main objective of this workshop is not to make the students actress but to make them aware about the techniques of theater and provide them ample opportunity to reveal and develop their personality.

Prof. Anjali Mahajan appreciated the music department for organizing such a wonderful event, which gives opportunity to the participants. She informed that this workshop will provide a common platform to the students and enable them to highlight their talents which will help in building confidence in them. She urged the department to organize more such programs in the near future also.

Meanwhile, a theme based scintillating cultural programme and Nukkad Natak was also presented by students of GCW Udhampur to celebrate Accession Day which was highly applauded by the audience. A plantation drive and a wall painting contest were also organized on the occasion.

Earlier, Convenor IQAC Dr. Anita Sharma presented a formal welcome address and highlighted the aims and objectives of the workshop. She said that host college would be designated to become the nodal college which would coordinate with its nearby colleges and invite those students who are interested in availing the benefit of training.

The workshop was coordinated by Drama Instructor Students Welfare University of Jammu, Sumeet Sharma, Assistant Professor Department of Music Yash Kumar and Assistant Professor of Botany Dr. Kewal Kumar from GCW Udhampur, Convenor Students Welfare Committee GCW Udhampur Dr. Meena Gupta presented vote of thanks while the programme was anchored by the students of GCW Udhampur Anisha Bhat student of Sem 5th .

Among others, HOD Music, Dr. Seema Sharma, HOD Chemistry, Prof. Kewal Kumar, HOD Botany, Prof Ashni Devi, Convenor Students Welfare, Dr. Meena Gupta, Dr. Ajay Sharma, Prof. Yash Paul, Prof Suneel Singh, Dr. Sanjay Kumar, Senior faculty members and a large number of students from different colleges were present on the occasion.
