Sakina Itoo calls for judicial probe into Kulgam deaths

JAMMU: Minister for Health & Medical Education, Sakina Itoo today batted for judicial probe into the mysterious deaths occurred in south Kashmir's Kulgam district.

Speaking to reporters in Jammu, she backed family's demand, saying if they seek the matter should be investigated through judicial inquiry, then it should happen so that there is no doubt left.

According to the police the body of Mohammad Showkat Bajad, a resident of Rajouri who was living at Qazigund, was traced from Vaishaw Nallah at Mah in Kulgam. His brother namely Riyaz Ahmad Bajad's body was also recovered from the same area on Thursday from the water body.

On reservation, the minister Sakina Itoo informed that a sub-committee has been constituted to review the matter. "The chief minister Omar Abdullah has clearly stated that a report will be submitted within six months," she said.

When asked about statehood restoration, she said that this is not a plea, rather a rightful claim from the people of Jammu and Kashmir. "The J&K people are not asking for something new. It has been ours from the beginning. If Jammu & Kashmir is the crown of India, we should be given statehood back. It is the collective demand of J&K people," she added.
