Indian Army launches timely relief operations after Ramban cloudburst

RAMBAN: In the wake of a cloudburst and intense rainfall that triggered disruptions in Jammu and Kashmir's Ramban district, the Indian Army swiftly launched coordinated relief and restoration operations, extending timely support to affected civilians and stranded commuters along National Highway-44 (NH44).

Responding promptly to the developing situation, Quick Reaction Teams (QRTs) from Banihal, Karachial, Digdaul, Maitra, and Chanderkote were deployed to provide hot meals, tea, basic medical assistance, and temporary shelter to those stranded due to landslides and road blockages.

Although no emergency requisition was formally made, the Army's response was closely coordinated with the District Administration, Police, and Traffic authorities. The Deputy Commissioner, SSP Ramban, and Superintendent of Traffic remained in touch with Army officials throughout the day.

Spokesperson said Eight Army columns (strength 1/1/18 each) have been kept on standby at strategically located posts to respond quickly if the situation escalates.

Meanwhile, road clearance operations are underway with the help of heavy machinery from civilian firms including KRCL, CPPL, and DMR. Officials estimate it could take up to 48 hours to fully restore connectivity on the highway.

Amid the ongoing relief efforts, the resilience of the local population was evident. One stranded commuter remarked, "Koi dikkat nahi hai... Army hai na... Sab kuchh theek ho jaayega." ("There's no problem... The Army is here... Everything will be fine.")

The Indian Army reaffirmed its commitment to standing shoulder to shoulder with the people of Jammu and Kashmir, ensuring safety, support, and assistance during times of distress.
